![]() Sources: Windows XP interface Google Search 8MM movie Release Date: February 26th, 1999 Cast: Nicolas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix, James Gandolfini, Catherine Keener, Peter Stormare, Anthony Heald, Myra Carter, Jacklyn Lick, Chris Bauer, Bob Clendenin Director: Joel Schumacher (Batman & Robin, Flawless, Tigerland; coming up next are Phone Booth, Chasing the Dragon: The Veronica Guerin Story and Dare) Screenwriter: Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en, Brainscan, Sleepy Hollow; cowriter of Hideaway) Premise: A widow discovers an 8-millimeter amateur movie in her husband's safe, which she is horrified to discover is a "snuff film". Snuff films are very specific forms of pornography in which one of the performers, usually women, are killed on film. Seeking some answers, she hires a private investigator. What she wants to know is where the movie came from, and what her husband had to do with it. The P.I. meets a young man named Max California who serves as his guide into this underworld of sex and death. As he begins to investigate this bizarre perversion, he finds his sanity slipping, and the people who made the film are after him. Message: View of reality through a PC interface. The situation portrayed is impossible; we cannot control the actions of any human being through a computer, yet the contents that can be found on the internet are horrific with no supervision. As bad as they may be, their source is still pain caused to a person in reality. The picture in the center represents reality, a reality that is violent. The only answer to the murder of the girl was ''Because he could''. This scene shows the 'moral hero' stand in front of the man who sat and watched the girl get murdered in the same room they are in. The 'hero' has a ''holy aura'' from the window in the background but there is nothing holy about him, he himself is about to commit murder. The white squares represent the 'windows' that open in a Windows interface. Google is an internet search engine that is known to find anything. Internet contents can be criticized, but reality still has much more violence to offer when focusing on pornography. The movie itself shows many places in which very specific pornography can be found, none of which is distributed on the internet. The real hardcore is found on 8MM film, a real life media (seen in the upper left frame). |
