קובץ התבייש! קבלת הערה! מסך מלא (ESC ליציאה) לא נטען? נסו ככה... I tried to show my frustration at Windows for constantly crashing or forcing itself upon me. I created this after a major computer malfunction forced me to format my computer. I took two shorts clips that came with Microsoft Movie Maker and edited them in with a clip of my hand caressing the keyboard in the dark and a clip of myself shot with red light (simulating anger). The plot is rather simple though not necessarily self-explanatory: As I fumble through the darkness (of life, of my room, of my computer) I am suddenly bombarded with the happy procrastinating clips that I have been force fed by Microsoft. As I watch these clips my anger grows to a crescendo, at which point I lung at the computer screen. One might also read into this plot a sub-plot where the Microsoft clips are analogies to the annoying cookies and bots implanted in my OS in order to spy and dictate my viewing and installing tastes. The soundtrack was mixed by me and contains a sound byte from Apollo 13 played in reverse. It also features a sound byte taken from Ren & Stimpy ("Space Madness"; Ren's Speech). Based on that sound byte I created my own sound byte emulating the voice of Grandpa Abe Simpson (The Simpsons), I then played with the frequency length and pitch of the sound bytes till I found the desired level of MADNESS. Keen ears might notice that the tune that plays throughout the clip is a slowed chunk of the opening theme to Doug. The soundtrack also carries meaning: First the sentence: "Gentlemen it's been a privilege flying with you" as spoken by Tom Hanks in the film Apollo 13 is played backwards. This is supposed to symbolize the termination of the computer (It HAS been...) and also to remind of the well known quote "Houston, we have a problem" which is a reference to the Microsoft style error messages. Doug's Theme's slowed pace is an inversion of the fast paced hectic opening credits to the show. Here I tried to symbolize the winding down of my PC. The Ren & Stimpy sound byte was taken both for it's literal meaning ("Why Won't They Leave Us Alone?!") in reference once again to the error messages and to reflect on Ren's attitude and temper. I've noticed that people fighting their computers tend to exhibit Ren-like characteristics. The Abe Simpson impression and the slowed down version serve as a reference to an entirely different emotion I associate with computer malfunction: Helplessness. The Character Abe Simpson often appears senile and helpless in the show. Likewise the slowed quote also sounds moronic. Note: I originally made this clip in 2000 out of a mish mash of things I had on my computer. I gave it no special thought. That is also the reason I never published it at Stage.co.il. The synopsis I wrote above however was written in late 2003, all connections to computers and/or their crashing were only thought up in said year and had nothing to do with the original mixing. Also my PC hasn't had a major crash since 1998 so that's BS too. |
