New Stage - Go To Main Page

I am the loneliest person on earth. Yesterday I woke up
after a dream, in which I met my old school mate, Tom, and
felt very happy to see him. To be honest with you, I was
thrilled to see him (in my dream). I haven't seen this guy
for almost seven years and now he popped up in my dream! It
is pathetic! Well, I guess I am pathetic too. And don't you
think that there was something nasty about that dream - oh
no, it was purely platonic, nothing sexual you dirty head! I
only think that when a girl has a boyfriend for over six
years and she is planning to marry this guy, she shouldn't
dream dreams of old school mates she happened to hang out
with, eight or nine years ago, what do you think? Sorry, I
haven't introduced myself, my name is Dora and I am lonely.
You know, loneliness is something you cannot really measure
but I do believe I can win any contest with mine. I have a
boyfriend and half a dozen of best friends to whom I can
tell everything but still, I am lonely. Maybe if I could
only have a cat, but I live with my old granny and she
prefers dogs- she has a pincher, which is tiny and mean. Oh,
if I could only have a little cat of my own, a little furry
creature who would love me with no conditions. My boyfriend
is a truck driver, he is tall and serious and doesn't talk
much, he is nice: sure he is nice and I like him very much,
we are getting married this June. Everyone keeps telling me
that I've got nothing to complain about, that I have a
beautiful life, lovely boyfriend, nice job (I'm working at
the flower shop just around the corner) and we will probably
have beautiful babies. Well, I suppose they are all right
I've got nothing to complain about, but, still, I've never
been to India and I've never jumped bungee and I've never
had anyone else but Jackie and I've never met my old man and
I've never done... well a lot of things. I guess a woman my
age shouldn't expect much, she needs a good husband, nice
house and if she'll have a little time for herself she will
be lucky to have a little imagination. Am I depressing you?
Oh please stay with me, I feel quite alone at this hour of
the night. I hate my night shifts although I live near by
I'm always asking Jackie to come and pick me if he is in
town. Anyway I can't imagine someone who would come in the
middle of the night to buy flowers although one night
someone did show up. I was here alone as usual, reading a
book (a boring one) and praying the shift will end. A man
entered to the shop, it was two o'clock in the morning and I
was truly surprised to see someone. He was about thirty, not
our typical customer I can say that! He looked at me and
asked for some daisies. We don't usually keep daisies this
time of the year, so he asked for roses. Roses we had for
sure, in every color, or so I thought, but he asked for a
unique color: purple- ash roses. He said he once saw these
kind of roses in our shop. I hadn't the slightest idea of
what he was talking about but I showed him all the purples I
could find but he wasn't satisfied. In the end he didn't buy
anything and I was sorry of wasting my time, however
something about him made me anxious to see him again.
Somehow in that ten minutes he has been in the store, I
managed to sense that he is a little bit like me, that he
belongs to a very large group that surely would never meet-
all the lonely people. There is a song about people like us
the Beatles wrote it "Eleanor Rigby" do you know that song?
I bet you do, everybody knows the Beatles -
