/ One Word

Ah... I panted as I threw my arm forward to support my fall,

but it just shot me sideways until I was steady enough to
raise my head.
Am I dreaming?
What am I doing here?
The boulevard was dark and empty. Besides the chilly humid
air nothing seemed to be moving. No movement at all.
I tried to figure it out but there was just nothing
exclusive, only faint distanced sounds.
Some trees were rustling in the tender breeze, shedding some
leaves that hit the concrete ground randomly with a familiar
crackle sound.
I had to bet that the faint noise was coming from the
direction I was headed. I think I saw a sort of a glow out
there.
The slim reflective puddles made by the curves in the
surface of the concrete added a cluster of sounds to every
footstep. Giving nature some extra canvas to play with the
monotonic tone of sole to solid.

I walked to where the boulevard met the curly alleyway and
left I turned from the mercuric open surrounding to brick
walls panning the silence of the yellow lantern between
them.
Was there someone on the way?
How come I haven't seen anybody?
I looked up to see if there were any window lights but there
was only one in this back alley that didn't have any other
as far as the eye can see.
The light in the window was solid but it was clear that
there was something flickering in that void up there.

As I was about to look away I noticed a translucent red
sheet sliding down the window, on the brick wall with a
liquid like motion that defied the rules of gravity.
It flowed down closing in on my height as it abruptly
detached itself from the exterior and came flying through a
lantern post, right at me.
The hit pin-balled me on a postbox and as I tried to gather
my posture a muttered voice came buzzing by me.
"I am the dream of this mister."
A what!?
It just hovered there. I looked away and starting walking
faster, throwing glances back and forth, stumbling over
unidentified urban obstacles at street corners.
As I looked back I saw blue, magenta and purple dreams
sliding down and back into semi lit windows. It took me a
moment to stop gasping and to take a look on the object that
broke my haste.
It was a brick, but just beside it, on the stone fence,
stood a candle, a small circular candle. Burning.

It couldn't have been long, I thought. I looked around me
and back at the candle. Making my way before detaching the
candle from my sight, I continued.
I think it took me another ten steps to see an amorphous
light in the distance. It was beaten from side to side by
the wind and by the time I knew it was another candle I was
already walking faster.
As I got to it, I saw it wasn't similar to the one before, a
bigger one but too, wasn't burning for long.
The intersection was silent and the street to my right was
empty. Only near one of the gates, on a stone gatepost,
there was a candle not too far away. I turned into the
street and started running. By the time I was halfway to it,
a light screen, a grid of water drops started falling to the
ground.
It didn't stop it from burning. This one had quite a flame
and wax run over its sides giving it a stem like look, just
like the trees in the boulevard.
The next turn I took left, which revealed scattered candles
alongside the pavement. The path I ran was suggesting only
one way.
The rain got heavier and the path markers only grew bigger
and persistent, resisting the water with gushes of melting
paraffin that gave a stabbing cry for each drop that it
took.
Running with nothing on my mind but can this be ?
Am I headed where I think ?

I stumbled out of the narrow street like a cork, beaten by
the diagonal rain and pounding wind. My eyes couldn't see
beyond the dark wall that stood in front of the shoreline.
The muddy ridge was outlined at the top with a row of
candles like a chain of light bulbs over a construction site
saying this is as far as you go...
I stared it just for a minute.
Must get to the fishing wharf...
I started hitting the hard mud. Streams of water from the
pouring rain curled and twisted like veins on a beasts arm
as I was digging scoops of gravel and moist sand, stomping
into the wall bashing its top.
Spattered wax clung onto my face and hair as I made my way
up and over the edge dispersing small candles around me.
I stood at the waterfront and looked at the sea.
The sea of liquid paraffin.
Crusted, wavy, magmatic, serene.
Lava like eruptions appeared on the surface meeting the cold
shower for the first time, creating a textured crust as they
cool down and re heat.
The breakwater!
I run, breaking through the bludgeoning wind, crawling,
crying.
Hammered to the jagged rocks scraping my clothes. On the end
of the breakwater,
I could feel my powers fading away as the storm grew vigor.
I sat curled with my hands over my head.
I had to get up...
As I pushed myself up with my hands from the algae coated
rock face the boulders began to quake. Underneath the
thumping heavens I raised my hands above my head, letting
out a faint voice that outgrew its proportions and turned
into a cry. A one-word scream, scraping the inside of my
throat, only to get buried in the enormous thunder that
detonated the skies.

My hands clamped my head in fear of getting thrown away. I
could feel their pressure on my temples as I opened my eyes
to see calm waters caressing a steady breakwater.
A thin line of luminous gold spread across the horizon and
the sky was lit with a light turquoise ambient.

As I made my way out of the beach I saw someone looking at
his wrist watch and heading away, another one was looking
out a third floor window.
Shop owners, declaring the beginning of a business day were
opening a variation of doors, making occasional reeling
sounds.
A fast food stand played a familiar tune,
"...the minor fall, and the major lift..."
as people rushed into the market square.
"...Hallelujah..."

The song faded as I made my distance.
Just as I was about to get in queue I saw a tattered bearded
man being hauled into a police vehicle.
I just heard him mumble...
Abruptly he shouted "Life!" trying to shake off his captives
as he was pulled away from sight.
I turned to look ahead.

The queue was building up.
I went down the escalator, and vanished in an enormous crowd
of people.
