Could there be something of such ultimate expense
That it compares to life itself, implying
That life forfeits its merit and that hence
We can't choose living over nobly dying?
But mock that noble death, posterity
Would not ever appraise thy sacrifice.
Deceitful clowns' inborn sincerity
Is verity frozen by death to ice.
So long as hope remains we can exist,
Hope it's a dream too real, hope it won't last.
The fear still lingers, thus we can resist,
But then hope's banishment by dread is cast.
I blame no one, therefore I blame you all.
It's proud human nature doomed to fall. |
