Civilization advances
As it does, we build.
We build statues
Monuments
Empires
Achievements
We build Castles.
We build them with gold
With ebony and ivory
With marble and mosaic
Our castles rise high
With great minarets
Spires and walls
Defying nature
Defying structure
Defying god
And yet
As time sweeps in
Like a vast, unstoppable ocean
Then our castles dissolve
Like illusions of sand and seashells
And though we watch our castles of achievement
Being swept by waves of time
We keep closing our eyes
And trying to reach something
And try to build more castels
Like children on the sea shore
And never seem to realize
That the illusion of "I got something"
And "I did something"
Is nothing more than a sand castle
Ready to be swept away
As the next wave comes. |
