Dev looked at Gabriel as he disappeared at the empty hall,
couple of feet before he arrived to the door. A little frown
built itself on his face.
'So soon?' he thought to himself. And started thinking about
the right course of action. After couple of seconds of
intense thinking, right before he came to a final
conclusion, his superb senses noted to his enlightened mind
that the whole class is staring at him waiting to see what
he wants from them.
He smiled faintly. Looking at the faces of those little
kids.
"Alex," he finally said "I'm going home and I need the
keys". He smiled again, but this time it was clear to all
that it was a fake one, and that the blacked-hair guy had
other things on his mind.
Alex threw the keys to the guy she thought to be her
brother. The keys got to their destination safely. Well they
didn't really got to Dev's hand as much as they flew to
him, but no one had the time to think about it because Dev
was out of the room in no time.
When Gabe at least waited until he got close to the door
that led outside and made sure that there wasn't anyone near
by, Dev didn't even do that. The moment he got out of the
class, and out of the sight of Eli and her friends, he
disappeared in thin-air. He didn't notice, or maybe ignored,
Nick that was staring at the figure that was in front of his
eyes for one moment, and wasn't there at all in the second.
Dev reappeared next to the front door of his temporary
house. He was now inside with his back to the entrance door.
He turned around, unlocked the door, turned around again and
walked towards his room. He walked through the designed
living room (blue carpet, black sofas and a lot of paintings
on the wall). He passed Alex's room too. The door was
slightly open and if he was in the right mood, he could've
see the pink walls and the 'happy' un-evil atmosphere that
was floating in the air. It might have even calm him down a
little, But no. He didn't notice a thing. He didn't even
notice the door of his own room. In fact he ignored it, and
the laws of physics, and just passed through the wood like
it was nothing but brown mist.
Dev's room, that was much bigger then it's actual size, was
black. It's not like the walls were black, or the furniture,
or both. It had a basic lack of light. Dev stood in the
middle of the total darkness of the room and stared at the
black space. Two yellow dots were walking towards him as he
stood there, and after a while they jumped on his lap.
Dev thought about something very specific, blinked once or
twice and about fifty red candles lit up the whole room. On
one side of the room, that had gray walls, stood a simple
metallic bed-frame and a simple mattress on it. There were
four chains connected to the bad and dry bloodstains on
them. Next to the bed, there was a big black pentagram that
was painted on the floor inside a black circle and there was
a black candle on each one of the star's five points.
The yellow candlelight revealed the other objects in that
huge room. All of them (with little exceptions) looked like
they were part of an old French torture basement. The light
also turned the two yellow dots into a black cat that was
now purring in Dev's arms. Dev walked to the fireplace at
the black-walled part of the room and lit up the fire. He
stood there for more than an hour, water dripping from his
body. The temperature of the room went up by at least 70
degrees, and Dev's eyes came back to life.
"So I see you're wheels turn a lot faster when it comes to
babes like Elizabeth ha?" Dev yelled into the fire, his face
were red with anger and the shadows of the red candles
played with his face and made him look a lot more dead then
what he really was. "She is ours and you know it you son of
a bitch! Jesus! Can't you just let her be where she belong?"
The question echoed around the room, and the answer wasn't
too late.
"We will see where she really belong Dev." It came from an
old man's face in the fire. He had good eyes, long white
beard, and a very compassionate expression.
After a second the face in the fire disappeared, and all the
light in the room disappeared with it.
"FUCK YOU!" Dev screamed with all his might. He had enough
experience to know that you can play with fire, with knifes,
with people's lives. You can break every rule you want and
make new ones as you go along to best fit your interests.
But on of the most important things he have ever learned was
that with god you play by the book, you'll play fair or
you'll never play again.
"I WILL GET HER BACK" he continued like the volume of his
speech will be the thing that will determine his victory.
Inside he knew he was a lot more than far from getting what
he wanted, what he was sent to get, Elizabeth.
"AHHHHHHHH". This time it wasn't his voice crying. It was a
woman's voice, a girl's voice.
"Shut up" Dev said in a low but tough tone. He got to the
conclusion that screaming won't help him here. "Shut up
Tiffany I'm trying to think"
He lit the black candles at the edges of the pentagram. The
soft light danced on the naked body of the woman that was
now lying on the bad tied up with the chains.
Dev stared at her deep blue eyes. He came close to her and
touched her soft blond hair gently. His face went closer to
hers, and his lips touched hers. He looked at her again and
an evil bolt of fire burned in his eyes. The girl screamed
again, this time with pure pain in her voice. There was no
surprise, She knew what's coming and the pain still shocked
her.
"It's all your fault" Dev said and lied on the black
pentagram falling asleep to the sound of the girl's screams.
Eli was standing naked in her room in front of the big
mirror, staring at herself. She looked at herself for a very
long time, and after she decided that her body was just fine
she moved to her face. She imagined herself on the stage
singing to hundreds of screaming fans. It all looked right,
in place.
"I never had sparkling stars in my eyes" she said and moved
away from the mirror to face her brother that was sitting on
her bed. George threw a big T-shirt to his sister; Eli wore
it and came to sit next to him.
"I don't even have starts that don't sparkle". She said and
looked at George waiting to his approval.
"No" the boy started. As much as he loved his sister,
looking at her naked in front of a mirror for an hour was
still one of the more boring things on his to-do list. "No
stars?" he asked and looked at her. "Are you totally sure or
you think I should stay here for the whole night and look at
you?"
The girl smiled a little, but it was for a very short time.
"Jay, I'm telling you this Dev guy is something special" she
said and was as serious as she could.
"OK," George gave up. "So date him!"
Eli eyed him and continued. "Jay I feel like there is
someone that is very important to me, that I let down or
something. I just don't know how." A big tear came down her
cheek.
"Come on girl don't cry." George gave her a hug and made her
feel a bit better. "Just go to sleep baby" he said and
pulled the blanket on her shoulders.
"Jay can you plea-"
"Yes Eli I'll stay with you tonight". The girl closed her
eyes with a smile and fell asleep in George's arms.
George woke up in the middle of the night, at first he
thought it was because of the light that came from the
bathroom. After a while he found out that what woke him up
was his sobbing sister.
"What's wrong baby?" he asked her half asleep.
"I... I heard her scream" Eli said behind the screen of
tears. "She's in so much pain. Because of me"
"What are you talking about?" If it was someone else he
would add 'the fuck' or at least 'the hell' in the middle of
the sentence, but he always felt that his sister is very
gentle and fragile. He never swore around her.
"George she's suffering!"
"Who?"
"I don't know." She burst into tears and went to sit in
front of the mirror again. She felt the answer to everything
was there. George got out of the bed and set next to her.
"Don't worry, I'm here" he said and yawned. He laid his head
on her leg and fell asleep again. Eli was still staring at
the mirror. She looked at her sleeping brother, and back in
the mirror. Than back to her brother, again, and to the
mirror. A worried expression found her way to her face.
She looked at the mirror almost obsessively now.
"Why?" she started to ask. "Why don't I look like you at
all?"
She asked her alleged twin; soon, very soon they both will
know the answer. |
