/ It was raining

It was raining.
That's all I can remember.
It was raining.
Those little drops from the skies.
Coming to slap me for my stupidness.

The forest was wet and refreshed. The sweet air of spring
filled every human soul with such a natural "high" that it
was almost unbearable.
The trees were green and brown and red and the white. And
the flowers were laughing and singing as the soft wind
carried their laughter to the living and dead of that
forest. The fruit were ripe. The grass got green. The birds
and animals were waking yawning at the dawn of this new
age.
Spring at the forest.
Spring at the last forest.
And through all that love and sweetness of the spring the
forest was weeping. Weeping for its brothers and sisters
washed away by the humans that invaded the forest planet.
And the unicorns tried to laugh the tears off, but it was no
use. The fairies tried to recover the brothers and sisters,
but it was no use.
The last forest wept on.
The last forest was dying.

"Planting new forests."
"No."
But we need to!"
"No."
"The last one is dying!"
"No."
"Come on, a bunch of trees!"
"No."
"There won't be any more forests if we don't do it!"
"No."
"But-"
"No!"

"Did you hear that, Zen?" Maura's head jumped up at the
sound of a small boom. "No, Maura, go back to sleep," Zen
yawned wearily and his head sand back down, along with his
eyelids.
Rolling her eyes, Maura rose to her feet and took a few
steps towards the lake. Zen half-opened his eyes, then
rolled them and rose to his feet and went to stand aside
Maura.
"Go back to sleep," he said wearily, "there was nothing, you
imagined it."
"I heard something." She stated, staring at the lake, "It
came from over the waters." "The humans make sounds all the
time, what different is this one?"
"I don't know, Zen, I guess you're right," Maura sighed,
then smiled softly at her brother, "go back to sleep. I'll
see you in the morning."
Zen nodded and started walking back towards the spot he
slept in before.
"You know, Maura," he said as he lay back down, "sometimes
you're just weird. You care too much for what those humans
do. They're a rotten race, you shouldn't care less for them.
All you need to care for is keeping the forest-" but just
then he realized his sister was on the other side of the
waters.
"Don't cross the Grove, Maura," he whispered to himself,
"don't go to the humans. They will only destroy you."
The unicorn closed his eyes and went back to sleep as his
sister peered through the Grove across the waters.
The human town across the Grove was shining as the fireflies
did that night. Those yellow dots were always fireflies to
the unicorn, they still were. What else could they be?
Some birds have told her of a thing called "electricity".
The birds said those humans have special magic that lights
the room with one swift motion over a white stick in the
wall.
That was all fiction. It could be nothing but fireflies.
And as dawn slowly rose over both the forest and the human
town the yellow dots slowly turned off one by one until
there were none.
Another sigh left Maura's soul as she turned away from the
grove and started crossing the waters again.

"The forest is dying."
Tillburry Stompet stopped kicking the small rock and his
head jumped. There was no one there.
Then his eyes caught a white figure moving across the lake.
A unicorn was walking on the water surface.
"Good Lord!" his jaw dropped and he struggled to keep his
balance, "I have to take a picture of this!" he stumbled for
his camera, hung proudly on his neck, went suddenly a great
shadow blocked his sunlight.
Tillburry's eyes widened and he fell to the ground,
desperately trying to crawl back. Zen's eyes were burning as
the great horn threatened the little human.
"I don't want to h-hurt y-you!" he stammered, "I wanted to
take a p-p-p-picture!" he raised his camera desperately.
At that the unicorn jumped on two rear legs and cried out
angrily.
This is it, Tillburry knew. He covered his eyes with his
forearms as one last desperate effort to protect himself,
waiting for the strike. But that never came.
Instead another figure showed up. Another unicorn.
It seemed as though it was saying something to Zen, but none
of the unicorns spoke. Zen settled back down and turned
away.
The second unicorn remained standing.
Slowly and shaking, Tillburry dropped his hands, only to see
the unicorn staring at him.
"You are one of the humans," the unicorn's eyes said.
Tillburry's eyes widened. He heard a voice but the unicorn
did not speak! The voice came from her eyes.
"Y-yes," he stammered, "my n-name is T-Tillburrrrrrry
Stompet. I mean you no harm, really!"
"Why did you come here, Ttillburrrrrry Stompet?" the unicorn
stared, "What would a human look for in the forest?"
"Ah, I came here to, ah... relax. You know, get my mind off
things, feel the wind... forget my troubles...."
"Why would you want to forget your troubles, Ttillburrrrrry
Stompet?" she asked, "Should you not try and solve them?"
"My problems cannot be solved," he said quietly, "such as
yours can't."
At that the unicorn was taken aback and stared at the human
even harder, and angrily. "What do you know of my troubles?
My troubles are caused by you humans!" the unicorn started
pacing towards the human, making him stumble back
desperately. "No! No, I'm trying to help you!" he tried,
"Please, I'm on your side!"
"Stay out of our forest!" the unicorn demanded angrily as
she slowly banished the human backwards, "Stay in your town
and destroy yourselves and leave us out of it!" "Please,
don't! I'm trying to help!"
"The forest is dying!" she cried, and then Tillburry
stopped. He had heard that before. They both fell silent.
Then Tillburry lowered his head. When he lifted it again the
unicorn was gone.
"The circle."

"Maura, you brought that human here!" Zen stated angrily
that evening, "He saw you standing by the Grove last night!
Now more humans will come! More humans! The forest will
die!"
"The forest is already dying." She said, and Zen looked
away, "Brother, the humans won't stop us from changing that
because we won't!"
Zen narrowed his eyes and shook his head.
"You are supposed to help the forest, not claim its death!"
he hissed, "You cannot forget out goal, Sister, you cannot
forget the circle!"

It was raining
That's all I can remember.
It was raining.
Those little drops from the skies,
Here to slap me for my stupidness.

"The circle is no more."
"What are you talking about, Maura?"
"I didn't say anything, Zen, it's the forest!" she said,
suddenly frenetic, "Zen, the circle!"
Without another word the two unicorns ran to the cliff.
"No," Maura shook her head as she stepped back from the
cliff, horrified.
"Maura, this is what your human caused! Don't walk away from
it, Maura, look!". The horrified sister could barely bring
herself to the cliff edge.
She looked down to what used to be the circle.
The circle was now of humans.
"The balance of my core," the forest whispered, "the circle
which was made of my flowers and my heart. The circle which
you once made is now made by the humans. And with the
disappearance of my core so shall you, Beloved, disappear."

And this was the end of unicorns.

Later on stories were told of the circle.
"Just a bunch of flowers growing in a round shape," the
scientists said, "that round shape created an energy force
that seemed to glow and myths of it being a life force were
invented."
"And the men and women who made their circle there?"
"Barbarians believing in the myths."
"But what of the unicorns?"
"Myths themselves."

And these scientists were called the "Wise Ones."
