Well now, we have this man
Sitting in a bar,
One more shot of bourbon he says.
Let's call him John ho, I know, John Doe.
So he drinks the unknown
And he wonders back home,
Then he sits on his porch
With his friend the cockroach.
And he says to his friend
It doesn't top that,
And before he finished that line
He is out.
And now we have this girl,
Let's call her Irene,
And she is sitting at home
With her lovely lover Walker,
And, now he wasn't ever much of a talker,
Yet he always knew how to make her sing.
And when she is with Johnny,
So it never gets lonely
Then she looks at him with her green glassy eyes
Begging him to stay.
And while she bends over,
Just before it's all over,
She says to herself ill be o-k
And then she is away.
And the people of night
On 7th street
Are walking between Doe and Irene
And they are looking at them and then look away,
At this too ding on their most happy day. |
