It was a rainy night
Nine years to her birth
She heard subdued voices of shouting
Outside her door
She left her room and saw
Sheets being torn off a bed
And kept standing there
In the hallway of noise and cold
She didn't understand
Why is mom mad at dad?
I have two silver chains
They keep me smart
They keep me warm
Recently, the chains have cracked
I fear they won't hold me anymore
And I'll fall
Five years went by
Things went up and down
Dad, was never around, never at home
Mom, complained and got mad, more and more
And dad moved to the couch
The hallway stood still, dark and untouched
She even tried to skip school
And she didn't eat at all
Sometimes you go up and turn off the light
Then you cuddle in your bed, and hold your blanket tight
And praying, that the voices will disappear
And the pray is strengthened by a tear
I have two silver chains
They keep me warm and smart
Recently the chains have broken
Will I fall, or am I free at last? |
