Last water drops were still dripping from the tap while Dr.
Barabash was waiting for his wife, May, to return home from
her work as a superior nurse at the district hospital.
It was their 20th wedding anniversary and excitement washed
all his body.
"God", he thought to himself, glancing at her picture
located on the bedside table, "how much I love this woman".
He could'nt remember anything, just horrible voices shouting
for help and a huge noises of explosions which where
spinning his head.
He remembered her, as she entered his room, approaching his
bed.
Her angelic face, her sweet and tender voice, the warm
atmosphere she was inspiring all over the room, were as a
sole silver lining in that dusky place full of pain and
stolidity.
She was about one hundred sixty centimeters tall, brown hair
trilling till her gentle shoulders. Her soft blue eyes, like
the color of the ocean, containing such depths, compassion
and softness. Her body ,the fragile figure relaying so much
tenderness.
She came to examine his wounded arm. She was'nt like all the
others, cold with lousy attitude, she was different. That
day he knew she will be his woman, the one to fill his
missing part, to fill his life with the intoxicant feeling
of love.
He wanted to surprise her, make that evening so unique. He
reserved a table at the famous japanese restaurant down
George St., knowing how much she liked japanese food.
He was dressed there with his best formal Armani suit,
wreathing with refreshing fragrance of the new perfume
Lancaster just draw out to the markets, holding the small
velvet box containing the expensive chain made of gold,
textured with pearls and amber diamonds.
The clock seemed like to be slowly creepting, he walked
towards the small bedroom's window to watch the sunset.
Staring at the fading sun, he started feeling heavier, his
head started spinning.
He felt as like a thin jet of water had started floating his
head. The stream started flowing and floating all over his
upper body, it went down, through his neck, filling up his
shoulders, first the right one and then the left.
The water continued flowing through his chest and stomach
down to his legs, he felt so dizzy and muzzy. His eyelids
were flickering, alpha waves were passing through his brain,
he collapsed.
========================================================
Looking around himself, he couldn't recognize anything,
everything was so strange, so horrible and scary.
From somewhere behind him he heard a week weeping of small
babies.
He looked at himself , he was wounded, his leg was bleeding.
"Where are all the others? Where are my soldiers?", he
thought to himself while ripping straps from his uniform
shirt to bandage his injury.
He looked around, it was horrible and staggering, the place
was full of seriously injured soldiers, some scorched bodies
and huge ruination. Some structures were still burning.
He could still hear the threatening sounds of the jet plains
and helicopters.
Thoughts of his home, in Michigan, the medical studies he
was about to start the following year, his friends crossed
his mind.
He looked at the crying-babies with an expression full of
compassion. He saw their skinny and acrid mothers trying to
breastfeed them with their last drops of milk.
Suddenly he heard a feeble groan next to him. He crawled
towards it, it was Tommy, his first lieutenant, blood all
over him, he noticed lot of bulky injuries all over him, his
left arm was scorched, and so his ankles. The groan stopped,
He covered his friend with blanket he found and continued
searching for some survivals.
Sounds of helicopters approaching from the sky made him so
terrified, panic all over him, he quickly pursed
introspective.
From nowhere he heard a huge, threatening noise.
========================================================
Wraf, Wraf, he woke up hastly, sweaty, by his little corgy,
Rocky, barks.
He was so confused, he took a moment to balance and calm
him-self.
Glancing at his watch, he notice May was now one hour late,
he started worrying for her. He decided to call her office
to check the time she left there.
While walking towards the phone he heard the expected sound
of the doorbell.
He wiped the last sweat beads from his forehead, sprayed
some perfume on his body and went to the door.
While opening the door , happiness started flooding him. It
was like magic. He looked at May, the woman he loved so
much, He wrapped her with his arms, hugging her, and gave
her a soft kiss.
Her beauty, her charm, the simplicity in her customs, he
knew he won a gift, a precious one.
He took her hand, walking down the stairs right towards the
street. As he opened the car's door, guided her in, smile
start spread at his mouth. He started the engine and drove
to town. All his thoughts were leaded by his decision to
make this night the sweetest, most pleasing, and exciting
night he could. He wanted to show her so happy, to make her
now how precious she is to him.
Feeling so warm and happy, he continue driving towards
George St. for a night they wouldn't forget for a long
time.
