2: Nachman

I tried for a few minutes to light the wall with the
flashlight, knock on it and what not, but to no avail. I was
caught in a tunnel, and the only outlet was forward.

The tunnel was narrow and long, and I progressed through it
cautiously so as not to rend my clothes too much.

At one of the turns the tunnel opened into a small and quite
empty room. A few minutes after entering it, the wall slid
and shut off the tunnel's opening.

A more thorough scanning of the room revealed a small pack.
I spilled its contents on the floor: a folded sleeping bag,
A "Tehillat Hashem" prayer-book, and a bag with sandwiches,
fruits and a water bottle.

A glance at the watch showed me that the time was already a
quarter to seven in the evening. I washed my hands and
prayed "Ma'ariv."

I took the mobile phone out of my pocket and tried calling
home. It seemed that the batteries were finished. That was
improbable, since I just reloaded them that morning. But you
can't argue with electric circuits. I ate one of the
sandwiches, drank of the water, turned off the flashlight
and went to sleep in the sleeping bag.

When I woke up, the room was lit. A quick check revealed its
source - a small window up front. In the room there was also
a table and chair, and on the table - a computer monitor.
The computer said: "Na Nach Nachma Nachman," and became
quiet.

I said: "Me'umman?" (Which I meant as "from Umman," but
could also be understood as "trained"). It answered: "Not
yet. When we finish training you, you will be me'umman."

I said: "Train me."

From beneath the table a drawer rolled with a joystick on
top. I sat on the chair, and on the screen appeared two
characters with a ping-pong ball between them. The character
to the right looked like a jackstraw, and the one to the
left - like a boy with curly sidelocks and a huge woollen
cap on which there was embroidered in huge letters "Na
Nach." The ball moved toward the boy. I struck with the
joystick, and it moved toward the jackstraw. The jackstraw
struck back. The number "1" appeared above, and the ball now
moved a bit faster.

Suddenly a voice said: "Jonathan! What are you doing?" It
was Horev. He was standing behind me.
I lost concentration in the game.
"I almost passed the 300 points," I said.
"Nu, really," he answered. "Don't you think you are past the
age?" He pressed on one of the joystick's buttons. The
screen blinked and then lit up again. The computer said: "Na
Nach Nachma Nachman." Horev said: "Moshiach." The computer
said: "Moshiach doesn't come, Moshiach doesn't even phone."
Which reminded me. "Horev, I want to call home, so they
won't worry about me."

"There is no need," he said. "They know all that they need
to."

"What's going on here?" I asked.
"Here? Nothing. Just a computer that likes to be witty."
"No, in general. How did you appear earlier, in the
cave..."
"Ok. We'll explain everything to you, slowly, slowly."

It seems that Horev came from the future. Year 5974 of the
World's Creation, to be precise. Or 2214 C.E.

The group he belongs to are trying to get someone from my
era, in order to slip through the barriers of no-time and
rescue Moshiach (the Messiah) from there. "People from our
time are sensitive to the radiation of these barriers," he
explained. "We cannot pass through."
