David was an ordinary boy. He was just a perfectly normal
14-year-old-boy. But everything changed on that dull 31st of
November...

David woke up at 6 o'clock, earlier than usual. He tried to
go back to sleep, but couldn't. Finally, he gave up about
going back to sleep, dressed up and went to the kitchen. He
poured himself some orange juice and ate some cereal. He ate
as quickly as he could so he could watch some TV. But, just
a moment before he turned on the TV, he glimpsed at his
wrist-watch and saw that it was already 7:53. He grabbed his
bag and ran to school as fast as he could. 'How did it get
so late?!" he thought to himself. When he finally got to
school, he took another look at his watch. It was 7:00.
'Were my eyes fooling me?' he thought to himself. He was
sure it was 7:53 when he was at home. But, how could that
be? Something weird was happening. Eventually, David gave
up; his eyes were probably fooling him.
Class finally began.  He took his sit and gazed at the
window. 'This day sure has a bad beginning' he thought to
himself and sighed. Suddenly, he heard a quiet hiss. He
looked around but couldn't find the one who was hissing.
"Blood..." the voice whispered "give me blood..." David felt
a shiver going through his back. He felt someone was looking
at him. Something inside him told him to turn to the window.
He turned, and saw a figure, with silky hair and piercing
eyes looking at him. It winked, and disappeared. He then
knew it. Something bad was going to happen.

School was finally over. David started walking home, when he
heard THAT voice again. It was calling him. He began
running, as fast as he could, trying to get away from the
voice. He didn't know where he was going; he just knew he
had to escape. After a while he had to stop. He could hardly
breathe. "Yo" he heard a voice coming from behind him. He
turned around, carefully. The boy behind him looked
familiar. 'It's that boy I saw at school!' he realized. He
could then get a better look at him. His eyes had a
crimson-red color, and looked lifeless and numb and his skin
was as white as a corpse's. His shoulder-length silky hair
floated in the cold November breeze. An evil smirk suddenly
appeared on his face, exposing two white fangs. ''Wh- who
are you?'' David mumbled. ''I'm Rory, Nice to meet ya.
You're David, aren't you?'' the boy asked, looking deep into
David's eyes. David was stunned. The boy knew who he was, he
was right; the boy WAS following him. ''What do you want
from me?'' asked David, trying to make his voice sound
courageous. ''Some help, that's all'' said the boy, Rory, in
an innocent voice. "Leave me alone" said David, moving a few
steps backwards. He felt fear gashing through him. "Go
away'' he turned back, and almost began running, when he
suddenly saw Rory just in front of him. ''I'll give you
something back, something you really want'' said Rory.
''There's nothing I want, just... just go'' said David.
''What about... your mother?'' whispered Rory in his ear.
David froze. He was then not just scared, but terrified.
That boy knew, he knew David's secret. ''I know about her,
and I can help you'' he said smirking again. ''You can't do
anything about it'' said David in an ironic tone ''she will
die soon anyway, every doctor I went to said so''. ''Well
then'' said Rory, slightly touching one of his fangs ''I
guess they just weren't vampires, were they?'' ''Vampires
don't exist'' said David. ''So what do you think I am?''
asked Rory in a serious tone. David stood silent. He didn't
believe Rory was really a vampire, but he DID notice he had
some power, an abnormal power. 'And what if he can... and
what if he really can cure mother?' thought David to
himself. ''Can you really do it? I mean prevent her death?''
asked David, Hope floating in his heart. ''Of course I do''
he said, smiling "but you have to give me something in
return". "I'll give you anything, just... just please don't
let my mother die!" "Are you sure you will do anything? Will
you even KILL for it?" asked Rory, his eyes teasing him.
"Yes" answered David in a definite voice. "So then, it's a
deal" said Rory, offering his hand for a shake. "Deal"
answered David. "Now, what do I have to do?" he asked. Rory
smiled. "Here" he said and gave David a paper and a small
object. "These are your instructions and your tool". David
turned awfully pale. "You're kidding" he said in a terrified
voice. "Nope" answered Rory "I'll be waiting there tomorrow
at 9 PM". He stepped back, and disappeared. David was
horrified. He couldn't do it, he just couldn't. But, it was
for mother's sake... He took a deep breath. Tomorrow was
going to be a hard day for him.

The 1st of December has arrived, and it was already 20:30.
It was about time to go and do it. David was in front of
that house, he had to do it. He rang the bell. A weird man
opened the door. "Yes?" he said. David clinched his hand.
"Will you come with me for a second?" he asked the man. The
man agreed and came with David to the ally that was near by.
"I'm... I'm sorry" he whispered, a tear fell down across his
face. He took out the sharp knife, and stabbed the man right
through his heart. The man fell, blood dripping from his
chest. David heard someone clapping behind him. "Bravo"
called Rory. "I'm very satisfied. I shall treat your mother
as well as I can. You may go now". David turned away and
ran. He did it, he killed that person. He KILLED someone.
"But it was for mother, so it's ok..." he told himself and
kept running.

David picked up the newspaper. It was already the 13th of
January. The big headline attracted David's eyes. "It is the
30th person that mysteriously disappeared and was found
dead, bloodless". He threw the paper and went out of the
house. It was Thursday, the day that he used to go check how
his mother is doing. On the last time David visited her, the
doctors said she was doing better. He stepped into the
elevator and got up to the 5th floor and entered his
mother's room. The doctor was already waiting. "I'm afraid I
have some bad news, boy" said the doctor. "Your mother's
condition somehow got worse today and... I'm afraid she
might die in a couple of days. I'm sorry..." David was
shocked. It couldn't be... he did exactly as he was told to,
Rory promised him. He ran down the stairs and got out of the
building. He had to find Rory. "David" he heard a voice
calling him from an ally near the hospital. "Rory, you liar!
You promised me you'll save her! You promised!" "I'm sorry,
but..." A cough interrupted Rory's sentence. "I need more
blood... I'm not strong enough..." "Why don't you just get
it yourself? You're a vampire, remember?" said David in a
furious tone. "I... I... I can't! Ok?!" answered Rory,
turning his face down. "Just bring me more blood..." "No!"
said David "I won't!" He turned around. "I will revenge you
for making me do this!" he said, and ran away to the old
man's shop. He remembered the old man would always tell
everybody who listened about magical creatures. He would
know what to do. David walked into the store. "Hello there"
the old man greeted him, but David was already too mad to
treat anyone nicely. "What do you know about vampires?" he
asked the man directly. "What do you want to know about
them?" "Do you know the vampire Rory?" asked David. "Yes, I
most certainly do. Well, you know, he IS the last one".
David didn't understand. "He is the last what?" "He is the
last vampire, of course!" said the man. "Do you not know the
story about Rory, the last vampire?" he asked. David didn't.
"Then I shall tell you" said the old man. The vampire clan
is a very ancient one. It started long ago when man was
bitten by a bat and became a vampire. The vampires have a
murderous impulse. So, one day, a dangerous vampire was
born. He was the one who was most murderous of all. His name
was Dolor. One day, he met a woman, and fell in love with
her. That woman is, of course, Rory's mother. His murderous
impulse weakened. With so much love around him, he couldn't
fell it. Ant then, one day, the vampire council decided to
eliminate him from the head of the council. His impulse
burst and he killed every single vampire that was in the
village. Then, he came back home. He couldn't stop it, he
needed more. But of course, he couldn't kill his own wife,
the one he loved the most, so he decided to kill the only
one who was left besides her, Rory. Rory's mother's motherly
instinct made her protect him, and the only way to save him
was to kill Dolor. She took the closest knife to her and
stuck it in Dolor's heart. When she actually realized what
she has done, Dolor was already dead. She couldn't bare that
fact. She forgot about Rory, and decided to end her life.
She took the knife, and killed herself. Rory is the only one
left" finished the old man. David didn't know what to do.
His anger still burned inside him. "But... what can I do?"
The old man gave him an old dagger with a red blade. "Kill
him".

David was ready. He got out of the store and ran towards the
ally near the hospital. Rory was still there. His eyes
looked as if he was suffering. David pulled out the dagger.
"That dagger..." said Rory in a fearful voice "the dagger of
hell" "The dagger of hell?" David didn't understand. "Thi...
this is the dagger of hell. The only thing that can be used
by a human to kill a vampire. But this dagger... this dagger
is the gate of hell. It does not only kill a vampire, yet
sends him to hell without any considering in his deeds in
life. A despiteful tool, for any vampire's opinion, of
course..." The dagger already touched Rory's neck. It had to
be done. "It doesn't have to be like this" said a voice in
David's head. "What else can I do?" answered David to
himself. He was confused. Then, suddenly, he understood.
That was the reason why he couldn't kill. Rory, whose father
was killed by his mother, and whose mother killed herself,
could ever kill. It was not his fault. He didn't deserve
such a fate. No one deserved such a horrible fate. David
remembered his mother, who was going to die very soon. He
didn't want her to die; he only wanted her to stay with him.
A tear dropped off David's eye and landed on the dagger.
Suddenly, a weird light surrounded the dagger and the blade
turned blue. Rory smiled and pulled David's hands. The
dagger was stuck into Rory's heart. "No..." said David
"No!!!" he shouted. All of a sudden, the light surrounded
Rory too. The light became so strong that David could not
see a thing. When the light eventually weakened, Rory wasn't
the same. His red, numb, lifeless eyes turned to blue and
calm and his skin became tanner. A truly kind smile appeared
Rory's face. "Thank you, David" he said "You changed the
Dagger of Hell into a Dagger of Heaven, and now, that I'm in
heaven I can finally see my mother". David smiled. "Before I
go, here's one last gift" said Rory. He closed his eyes and
gathered a little ball of blue light in his hand. He gently
flew it over to the distance, and disappeared. David smiled.
He understood. He ran to the hospital and got up to his
mother's room. "Mom!" he shouted and ran to hug his mother.
She smiled at him and hugged him back. "Please, mom, don't
ever leave me again".

Rory sat on a cloud and watched David. He was truly happy
now. "Rory, come, dinner's ready!" "I'm coming!" answered
Rory and went to the table to eat with his mother. 'I guess
vampires do not exist after all, do they?'
