לג'רי,
אחרי ולפנים
You were chasing the devil All through the night
And into this morning to catch his whole might
To whip its tail, once and for good
Armed with twelve bottles of beer and no food
You cited your life goals, when early you called,
You'd write a book, record an album before you grow old
But first you should balance this ancient score
With the elusive bastard, who keeps asking for more
I wanted to ask you to leave him for last
But as clear as the day growing brighter so fast
I knew it was doomed to be now; it just must
Like a rooster calling on another break of ray,
You climbed the balcony in search of your pray
But there were too many trees blocking your way
And all mutual grounds seemed in much disarray
A couple of hours past dawn, in this newly shed light
I could only hope you were still holding tight
I asked you to pay my respects, if you can
When you finally get to meet, devil-to-man,
For you can't avoid him, without trying to mend
Some things have to die and I do understand
I had to hang-up before you see how well
This tragic notion surely rings a bell,
Of late months tango fistfights, before many years
When he offered his hand, with a wink and a smear
Inviting to take one more step, and adhere
Yes, one always loses; and you can't reach a tie
The battles just determine how badly and why
And if I kept my soul, clinging strong to what I had
It was only by stepping down, defeated and sad
Now, I hope it's time for you to fully fail
So I can read this much waited for tale
So you could call again with dawn simply to say
How light still climbs in shades of gray
So you can rest in peace within your day |
