| I met my girl in Minnesota, of the thousand lakes She was as sweet as sorrow, and my heart still aches
I went to look for her, but never found her track
O lord, for all I give, why can't I get it back?

I dated her in California, beneath an endless sun
And for a while, we played the game, we had a lot of fun
But I tried to hold her up, she simply said goodbye
I don't know where she went, and I don't know why.

I saw her masked in Louisiana's all souls' day
Together, we tried to tread a different way
But it wasn't meant to be, or so at least she said
From my point of view, she merely looked afraid.

Our pathes had crossed again, under Oregon's clear sky
Her eyes burned like the stars above, and I just wished to
 die
You know, she sang to me, you're helpless as a child
And we split again, in that eternal wild.

I caught a glimpse of her on New York's pearly stage
I was still nobody, and she was all the rage
So I just watched her from afar, and never came up close
I was afraid she'd tell her friends: "O, he is one of
 those".

I thought of her in Missouri, as I crossed the river
From the sparkling flow, my absent mind would weave her
I swore a stern goodbye to the good old Middle West
Hoping I'll prove strong enough, that I'll pass this test.
