/ Happiness

"And they lived happily ever after..." finished the angel
his story.
"But what makes them happy 'till this day?" asked the little
boy.
And the angel knew that he couldn't answer that question in
words. That was a question to which the only answer was
understanding.
The boy flew high above his home and saw paradise fading
below him, he saw everything go dark and then he saw patches
of green, red and blue. They swirled around him in the
familiar shapes of animals or geometrical figures and then
they showed the boy a story different from the one the angel
meant for the boy to see. The boy was in a perfect place,
very much like eden yet different - it was more real. And
then the boy understood why it was different: he felt its
cruelty. He understood it was beautiful and deadly - he
understood that the most beautiful of the trees were the
ones that managed to suffocate all their competition, the
most beautiful of animals were the ones that managed to kill
their pray. Then he understood the meaning of happiness. He
heard the angel call him back desperately, trying to wake
the boy up but the boy has already chosen. He focused his
thought and made the angel disappear, killing him. The
vision continued.
The boy walked through the garden and watched its methods,
learning. Suddenly the trees darkened, the animals became
uglier and the once beautiful garden became a hideous swamp.
At first, the boy was disgusted but then he realized that it
was just as beautiful because he learned - beauty is
measured by the amount of work it takes to achieve it.
Seven years passed on the boy in isolation. He lived in the
swamp and learned the ways of happiness by himself until HE
came. HE came to the boy from between the trees and asked
him just one question "Where are they, what do they do?" and
disappeared. The young man spent a whole year thinking of
the answer and finally he screamed "They were cruelly happy
until they made someone else happier!" And thus the man's
training was complete.

The devil came down from the sky one day. He looked just
like a man but He was not, The devil had an idea that
killing was happiness and a skill of persuasion because of
which it only took him seven years to take control of the
world and create total anarchy. Then followed the time of
one law. The devil has made just one law for the entire
world - "Any who gives another an order will follow that
order or be executed." For 70 years this rule has cost
humanity the lives of billions of men who were foolish
enough to break the one law or threatened someone to a point
he was forced to kill them, being unable to just worn them.
But finally - The devil died, this wish of all the people
was ectually even worse then the devil's coming. Now that
threats, warnings and laws were no longer outlawed people
each wanted to make their own rules. Thus began the war of
succession.
It was during the war of succession that man lost all his
morals, people fed on the severed limbs of their less
fortunate brethren to survive and killed their neighbors
simply to intimidate all others. Whole fields were sawn with
death and destruction as small bands were created and
started merging into larger bodies. Those bodies would then
fight to extend themselves but almost always fail and bring
even more death and destruction. Life was all but
annihilated on the planet and yet man fought on for the
happiness he knew he would find in winning.
The boy woke up in cold sweat from the nightmare and saw the
angel sitting before him "That will teach you to be careful
with your questions. You might get that for an answer," he
said. The boy just lay down and thought that it won't be
long until he can escape the angel who wouldn't let him be
happy...

Alternate ending for the optimistic ones amongst you:
The boy woke up in cold sweat from the nightmare and saw the
angel sitting before him "That will teach you to be careful
with your questions. You might get that for an answer," he
said. The boy just smiled and fell asleep, that night he
dreamt of happiness as he walked through a beautiful garden
and talked to the people he loved. Comfortable in the
knowledge that happiness lies in life and not death.
