The location: A coffeehouse in Trenchtown.
The characters: 1- John, 41, a traveler from Georgetown. 2-
Nathan, 26, a local student of banking. 3- Barman
John walks into the coffeehouse and puts his bag down.
Nathan is sitting next to the bar and watches the tennis
match on T.V.
John: May I sit next to you? I need to know some info about
this city. Are you local?
Nate: I guess so. You can sit down if you want to. If
there's anything you should know about this city is that
it's full of coffeehouses and pubs.
John: Yeah, I've noticed that... Listen, have you visited
all of the coffeehouses yet?
Nate: Yes, when I was in highschool. Now I don't really have
any time to waste over it.
John: But you don't seem like you're doing much right
now...
Nate: Well, it's a long story, you see... I'm a student of
banking and it's a real bore... so I'll finish college and
work in banking, I guess.
John: (ordering coffee and so does Nate) What's your name?
Nate: My name is Nathan, but you can call me Nate.
John: Mine's John. I've been traveling this big old country
since I was 25. I saw all kinds of really strange vegtables,
weird animals and I drove into a cloud once.
Nate: Really?
John: Yeah! It was so cool...
Nate: You must be joking. It's my biggest dream ever! The
next thing you'll tell me is that you've seen the biggest
spoon in the world!
John: Well, I've seen it.
Nate: Was it really big? ( The barman turns of the T.V.
set).
John: It was high like Mount Everest.
Nate: No way!
John: Way... you just have to see it.
Nate: I wish I could... there's no way I'll be able to leav
this town and college.
John: Try. Maybe you'll make it. If not, it won't do you any
harm.
Nate: Right. Say, have you been to Disneyland?
John: No. Maybe I've been there- when I was a child.
Nate: I'm crazy about the Animaniacs!
John: I'm crazy about Smiley.
Nate: But it's not Disney's.
John: Nevermind. I guess it's Franklin Laufrani's... (The
Barman serves the coffee in yellow cups).
Barman: Sorry, but we've ran out of the normal cups.
John: It's O.K. ( Looks at the cups). Do you like yellow,
Nate?
Nate: I'd prefer blue, but it's a fine color.
John: (Takes out a black marker from his bag). This cup's
crying for a change. (Draws Smiley).
Nate: Give me your marker... (Draws BigBird).
John: Let's sell those cups and get out of this town.
Nate: Fine by me.
