I think this one pretty much speaks for itself. As for the
structure - I wanted to go ABABA, BCBCB, but it didn't come
out, so I settled for this. I kinda like this: it reminds me
of "The Road Not Taken", although far be it from me to
compare myself to Robert Frost. Still, I think this turned
out fairly well.
If there are moths in the dark, cold night
I know exactly how they feel
When they see enchanting lights
Faraway, but still as bright,
As warm, as comforting, as real.
But they don't know that fires burn
Hot and biting, tearing wings
From moths that did not know to turn
Back when they could, and did not learn
That fires do unspeakble things.
But if they did know, they would still
Go forth unto the sweet temptation,
For no moth could, nor ever will
Have enough sheer force of will
To resist the warm damnation;
For even fire and wings lost
Are better than eternal flight.
For even though it's high in cost,
The moth will, as do most,
Prefer it to the lonesome night.
My nights are cold. My wings will fall,
As do most people's, after all |
