עידן ירוק
/ The Horse Race

On a sunny day two people from opposing factions decided to
settle their long lasting rivalry with a simple solution - a
horse race. Each would choose the best horse he could
afford, train and prepare for thirty days. On the day of the
race anyone who chooses will have the opportunity to
witness, and a coven of three judges from the respected
residency of their home towns. On the coming four weeks a
long track has been built in a neutral location chosen by
the coven of judges. Prospectors from both rivals' followers
and others have come to oversee the construction, and find
other uses for it in the future.

On the designated day all the people gathered around the now
famous track. The two rivals took their time in arriving.
One hour after the designated hour and many food and
beverages served, the first person arrived. He showed up on
a tall, long-legged horse with muscles in all the right
places. It was white with several brown spots. The crowd
gathered and marveled at the beautiful creature. Exactly
fifteen minutes later the second rival appeared. He came on
a similarly magnificent beast, only this one a bit shorter.
It had a flowing mane of hair on its head and around its
hooves and belly. It was equally muscled and long legged,
however, and very fit for a racetrack, as everyone was
assured.

As first order of the day, the judges demanded a trial round
for them to judge the horses' capabilities, the riders'
skill and the track's durability. The two rivals bragged for
a while about each one will show the other who is the better
before the real contest. The starting call was made and both
went on for the first ride. It was intense, and the crowd
went wild in this first attraction, before any real show of
capabilities. The two rival riders have shown that the month
of training has not been for nothing, and everyone witnessed
once again how their rivalry pushed both of them to near
impossible feats.

After the first circuit, and both rivals coming exactly at
the same time, the judges converged and decided it is time
for the real race. They've given the riders the goal of
riding three circuits, and whoever finishes first wins.
Simple, they thought. The thirty minutes competition was
excruciating. The two rivals rode for what seemed like
forever. The crowd went wild as they both rode almost always
at the same line, one of them ahead of the other at times,
and vice versa. The horses lolled their tongues outside
their mouths in exhaustion, yet no winner could be declared!
Both rivals arrived at the exact same time.

They were given another challenge - a hurdle competition.
The horses seemed beat afterwards, but had enough strength
for another route, because no rival dropped any hurdle and
both finished, once again, at the exact same time. The next
competition had both riders show their jousting
capabilities. In five rounds, both rival fell two times,
managed to drop his rival two times, and both missed each
other at the fifth. It was never like that; the two
competitors have never shown such equality in a single
combat. Each one of them had beat the other at some times
and lose at others equally, but not like this.

It is said that the competition lasted all day. And after a
night's sleep the day after. And still no competitor was
found. Most of the crowd was rumored to have left the act at
the third day, and the judges tired as well after a whole
week. The rivals haven't stopped though; they competed on
and on until no one knew when. They never stopped to eat,
then to sleep, or drink.

They say the horses died first. But then both combatants
were surely mortals, so they died too. And until today some
local at some location claim they hear cries of a horse race
taking place.
