Shall I compare thee to a winter's night?
Thou art more enigmatic and more breathtaking.
Winter's strength and rain and chill despite,
And night's powerful grip withstanding,
Sometimes too cool the frost dost freeze,
And oft is night's black cape burned,
And every dark by dark sometimes declines,
By chance or the sphere's turn, unchanged;
But thy eternal darkness shall not fade,
Nor shalt thou losest thy charm,
Though death may take thee in his raid,
When in endless grief thou thyself harm.
So long as nightfall comes to us and goes,
I shall be with thee and guard thee from thy foes.
