You always give him compliments
Telling him that his the best
That he could be the president
Or if not, the next bill gates

You keep pushing him
Trying to make him work harder
Study longer
Finish faster

You won't accept a second place
He must always be the best
Number one or nothing else

But if you took the time to listen
Throughout the pressure and the pushing
You might hear a little sound
A crying sound
A desperate sound

He may be able to make you proud
But when it comes to him
He isn't satisfied
Not even remotely proud

He didn't wand to be the best
A number one act
All he wanted was to be himself
Not somebody else

But what's the point in all of this
It's too late now
Or so it seems
The kid is gone
He ran away

To some place else
Where he can be a second place
Where he doesn't have to be the best
Where he doesn't work for someone else

Not he's thinking of himself
And now he feels like his the best
