נפרד, ואשר השאירה בי את ההרגשה העזה והגרועה ביותר שיכולה
להשאיר - שפישלתי, שעשיתי את הבחירה הלא נכונה, - התחילה במכתב
מוזר, שאותו קיבלתי בצהרי היום ה-9 באפריל שנת 2302.

לפי תחנת החלל בקליפורניה, לכדה"ץ מתקרב עב"ם.
התחנה לחקר תופעות על-טבעיות, לאחר חקירות רבות, הביאה
הוכחות מספר לכך שנחיתת חייזרים זו היא אינה הראשונה, וחייזרים
אלו נחתו בכדה"ץ כבר בימי התנ"ך.

האיש ישב על כסא מתכתי במרכז החדר, ראשו כבוש בכפות ידיו.
"מאיפה אתה?" חזר ושאל פול, אשר עמד ליד אחד הקירות, נשען
עליו, מאחורי הכסא.
האיש הוריד את ידיו. "אני לא מכאן!" צעק הוא. "כמה פעמים אפשר
להגיד לכם שאני לא מכאן?!"

כבר התכוונתי לשאול משהו, אך לפתע האיש במדים השחורים
השתתק, הביט על חבריו, על נעליו, ואז צעד אחורה.
למה הוא רצה לתת לנו את הרשות לשאול, אך התחרט? למה כולם
יודעים מה עליהם לעשות, ואיך? ומה אני עושה פה?
